About Golden Retriever Info

Welcome — and if you're here, there's a good chance a Golden Retriever has completely taken over your life. Lucky you.

Golden Retriever Info is a resource built for real Golden owners — whether you're still in the thick of puppy chaos, managing a health concern, trying to figure out what your dog can and can't eat, or just wondering why they do the things they do.

Everything here is written from lived experience, not a textbook.

Who's Behind This Site

Hi, I'm Jenny — Golden Retriever owner, dog mom, and the person behind this site.

My Golden's name is Ellie, and as a senior Golden, she has walked me through every stage of this breed's life. The wild puppy energy. The stubborn teenage phase (yes, it's very real). The deep bond that builds over years together. And now, the particular joys and careful attention that come with loving an older dog.

I also run First Time Dog Mom, where I've spent years writing about Goldens — their training, their quirks, their health, their needs — all from the perspective of someone who has actually owned one.

I'm not a veterinarian, and I won't pretend to be. But I am someone who has done the research, stayed up too late reading about hip dysplasia, tried every training tip in the book, and figured most things out the way real dog owners do — with their dog right there beside them.

My goal with Golden Retriever Info is simple: to be the knowledgeable friend you wish you could call when something's confusing, something's wrong, or you just want to know if what your Golden is doing is completely normal.

(Spoiler: it usually is.)

What You'll Find Here

Golden Retriever Info covers the topics that actually matter to people who own this breed.

Puppy Guides — From surviving week one to crate training without the tears, potty training timelines, understanding why your puppy bites absolutely everything in sight, and building good habits before the bad ones set in.

Health & Wellness — Honest answers on the health challenges Goldens face, including hip dysplasia, recurring ear infections, weight management, cancer risks, and knowing when something needs a vet visit rather than a Google search.

Nutrition — What Goldens can and can't eat, how often to feed a growing puppy, how to choose the right food, and how to tell if your dog is quietly carrying extra weight.

Training — Real, practical tips that account for how Goldens actually think and learn — not generic advice that could apply to any breed.

Breed Knowledge — Understanding what makes a Golden a Golden. Their temperament, their social needs, their quirks, and what it really looks like to share your life with one every single day.

How This Site Works

Every article on this site is written with one reader in mind: someone who genuinely loves their dog and wants information that is accurate, honest, and grounded in real experience — not recycled advice dressed up to sound authoritative.

When something warrants a professional opinion, I'll always say so. I'm not here to replace your vet. I'm here to help you walk into that appointment a little more prepared, or to give you a real answer at 10pm when you can't stop worrying and the vet's office is closed.
